'Who said I am not Poor: Examining subjective poverty in Malawi'

 

On April 2 2014, Associate Professor Maxton Tsoka of the Centre for Social Research (CSR) Research, led the monthly seminar for February 2014 with his presentation on measuring subjective poverty in Malawi. In his presentation, Maxton argued that although ‘consumption expenditure’ dominates people’s views as a welfare measure, subjective poverty is more in tune with the multi-dimensionality of poverty. As such, researchers, policy makers and programme implementers need to get in tune with modern ways of assessing poverty which combine both objective and subjective aspects of poverty. He also argued that past policies which relied on objective assessment may have been mis-informed resulting in poor targeting of beneficiaries....... Downlod the presentation here

The Faculty of Social Science of the University of Malawi in Collaboration with the Ministry of Disability and Elderly Affairs, the Federation of Disability Organizations in Malawi (FEDOMA) and the Secretariat of the African Network for Evidence-to-Action on Disability (AfriNEAD) at Stellenbosch University in South Africa is announcing the 2014 AfriNEAD Symposium which will take place from 3rd to 5th November 2014 at Sun and Sand Holiday Resort in the lakeshore district of Mangochi in Southern Malawi.
